(Morristown, NJ)—February brings a fun array of family festivals, children’s theatre, and art workshops to the Morris Museum. The line-up includes a Chocolate Family Festival on February 6 featuring a performance of “Miss Nelson is Missing” and a Dr. Seuss Family Festival on February 27 featuring a performance of “Seussology.” Also on the schedule are Presidents’ Day activities on February 15 including a laser show, studio art workshops and crafts.

 

Chocolate Family Festival

Saturday, February 6, 11:00AM – 4:00PM

Join us for a sweet adventure at the Museum.

  • Play chocolate bingo
  • Design your own chocolate bar wrapper
  • Make a hot cocoa craft
  • Enjoy chocolate inspired games
  • Meet a chocolatier
  • Participate in a Touch the Music workshop (12:00PM; 1:00PM; and 2:00PM)
  • Take-in a performance of Miss Nelson is Missing (additional fees apply)

Children’s Theatre: Miss Nelson is Missing

Miss Nelson can’t control her crazy classroom because she’s just too nice. But when she disappears, her substitute is the no-nonsense Viola Swamp! With the big test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss their Miss Nelson… and they’ll do anything to get her back! Book by Mike Artell, adapted by Joan Cushing, produced by Centenary Stage Company.

Celebrate President’s Day and America’s unquenchable spirit of innovation, discovery, and exploration with the American Pride Laser Spectacular, an exciting musical and laser extravaganza that touches on several US historical highlights featuring pop/rock and patriotic music. Presented by Prismatic Magic, Inc.

Studio Art Workshop: Patriotic Wire-and-Yarn People

9:30AM – 12:00PM
Ages 8-12+

Create a patriotic figure out of wire and yarn. Make a “skeleton” out of wire, then fill out the body with yarn, adding some embellishments to finish your patriot.

$40 Members; $45 Non-members; $5 supply fee to instructor

Studio Art Workshop: Page o’ Comics

10:00AM – 12:30PM
Ages 6-11+

Come one, come all, to a comical workshop! Learn about comic character- and landscape design. Create your very own stylized comic page. Students will go home with a comic packet with two comic studies and a comic page strip along with extra pages to finish at home.

Studio Art Workshop: A Day with Warhol

View a sampling of works by Andy Warhol, one of the modern era’s most influential artists. Learn about his life and times, while you explore his groundbreaking style, Pop Art. Create your own masterpiece in the style of this master.

Dr. Seuss Family Festival

Saturday, February 27, 11:00AM – 4:00PM

Celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss. Enjoy these Seuss-inspired activities for the whole family:

  • Mix up a batch of Oobleck
  • Enjoy readings of Dr. Seuss classics by the Cat in the Hat
  • Create items you might find in a Dr. Seuss book
  • Craft a pet from the new Dr. Seuss book “What Pet Would you Get?”
  • Take-in a performance of “Seussology” (additional fees apply)

A fun, lively, and interactive program run by a very funny and silly Cat who causes all types of mischief. Test your knowledge of Seuss trivia, get down during the Seussology Dance Party, and participate in the tongue-twisting Seussology Rhyming Time. Produced by Currier’s Magical Mania.

About the Morris Museum

Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum is an award-winning, community-based arts and cultural institution which serves the public through high caliber exhibitions in the arts, sciences and humanities.  The Museum also offers educational programs, family events, and is home to the Bickford Theatre and its wide range of performing arts offerings. Continuously serving the public since 1913, the Morris Museum has been designated a Major Arts Institution and has received the New Jersey State Council on the Arts’ Citation of Excellence, among other awards. The first museum in New Jersey to be accredited, the Morris Museum was re-accredited in 2013 by the American Alliance of Museums.

The Morris Museum is a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.




Location & Hours

The Museum is located at 6 Normandy Heights Road (at the corner of Columbia Turnpike) in Morristown, NJ, and is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, 12:00 to 5:00pm. In addition, the Museum is open evenings from 5:00 to 8:00pm on the second and third Thursday of the month. Admission to the Museum is $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens.
